We enjoyed a visit from my college friend, Shelley Nerothin and her daughters, Elida and Ruby on Sunday, Sept. 28th. It was wonderful to visit and catch up! We hadn't seen each other since Shelley and Jason's wedding--too many years ago!
Elida and Ruby took an interest in Evelyn. It was fun to watch the girls interact with each other.

Auntie Ann, Presque Isle and Frosty Treats!

Evelyn and Presque Isle deer

Oh oh! Look out!

Presque Isle sunset.

Auntie Ann and Evelyn near sunset point.

Auntie Ann arrived on Friday afternoon and will spend the next 10 days with us! She'll be babysitting Evelyn when Lara returns to work next week.

We're trying to get some fun in this weekend. Friday evening we drove around Presque Isle and then took a walk around Presque Isle. We made sure to stop near Sunset Point to enjoy the brief sunset.

Then it was on to Frosty Treats for an ice cream. This is the last weekend they'll be open for this season. Sadly, this was our first trip there this summer!

Big boy John-John

Yummy eggs, Aunt Lara!
"More juice?"
"Cheese!" We enjoyed a long weekend with the Milewskis this past weekend. It was so good to see them! As you can see, John-John is getting to be a big boy (2 1/2 already!) He loves having his picture taken ("Take picture?")
Saturday evening we enjoyed dinner at the now smoke-free (yea!) Vango's and then we walked around NMU's campus to check out all the changes that have happened since we all graduated.
Sunday morning, Julie took John-John up to Marquette's Lower Harbor park to play on the playground while the rest of us slept in (especially nice after Evelyn's wakeful evening!) After the kids had their afternoon naps, we headed over to a pig roast at Gwinn United Methodist Church.

Did you just meow at me?!

Had to laugh when I reviewed this clip of Evelyn! I was trying to capture her smile in a photo and didn't realize the camera was set to video instead, so I got a short clip of her smiling and what sounded like a "meow"--finally figured out it was just me coaxing the smile out of her! Fans of the movie "Super Troopers" might enjoy this clip!

Well, look who's so chipper!

We had a rough one last night! Up every hour crying! Yikes! But, look who was so chipper this morning and all day (it sure wasn't Mommy!) The top photo is actually a smile.
Evelyn enjoyed some tummy time on her Boppy. She was staring longingly at her giraffe (courtesy of John-John, who will be visiting this coming weekend.) But, oh so quickly, she had a meltdown.

The Thums!

Well...I guess it was going to happen sooner or later, but Evelyn started showing interest in boys, and vice versa. Our good friends Scott & Jennifer came Friday evening to visit and brought their 8 month old son, Andrew. While we are Andrew's Godparents, we have not seen him since May when we all went Geocaching together. We couldn't get over how he has changed from a baby to being a "big boy" in about 3 1/2 months!
Andrew was very interested in Evelyn. During dinner, Evelyn was seated in her chair (as seen in the photo) by Lara's feet. Andrew was in his highchair, and every time Evelyn made a sound, Andrew was trying to look at her. I think Evelyn has the knack to wrap most males around her little finger. But, as you can tell in the picture, Evelyn was taken by him as well! To quote the old song, she was giving him that "sly, come-hither stare". Yikes! What are we in for?!? It won't be too bad as long as she sticks with the "nice" boys like Andrew.
It was great to see the Thums again. We left the evening saying how we need to keep setting times to get together so another 3 months won't pass without us seeing each other. Hopefully, we will have many more getherings of Geocaching, playing Wii, and watching movies, and best of all - just visiting with each other. Above is a picture of Jennifer with Andrew and below is a picture of Evelyn hanging out with Scott (her future father-in-law???).

Visitors from Finland

Evelyn's first month was so busy. It seemed as though we had a visitor every other day. One very special visit happened on July 22nd. Lara's college roommate, Pia, who lives in Finland, was spending her holiday in the Chicago area and decided to make a quick day trip to meet Evelyn. She and her boyfriend, Jaakko, flew standby from Chicago to Green Bay, rented a car, then drove to Gwinn. We had only a few hours to catch up with each other and share a quick meal before they had to drive back to Green Bay and catch another standby flight to Chicago to finish their holiday.

Big Brother

From the moment we came home with Evelyn, Sammy has been adapting. He still does not know exactly what to make of her, but he is getting more and more comfortable with Evelyn in the house. Right now, he really wants her to grow up so he can have someone to get into trouble with.

I sat Evelyn down with Sam to see how he would react. Don't worry, I am right there beside them keeping a close eye on everything...not that I needed to worry. To have a dog with teeth larger than your baby's fingers, nails longer than her toes, and a weight close to 7 times her own -to know that he will be her friend and protector is a wonderful thing. Not only are we blessed with a beautiful daughter, we have a great dog/friend/big brother in Sammy.

2 Month Check-Up

Well, Evelyn had her 2 month check up (a few days late) on Friday, 9/5/08. She weighed in at 10 lbs. 13 oz. and measured 21.5 inches. She sure is growing! We had the dreaded (by us) 4 shots--two in each thigh. She had such a look of shock on her face when the nurse gave her each shot and she cried very hard. Unbelievably, she fell asleep shortly after I picked her up once the nurse gave me the go ahead (this was around 5 pm) and she slept until 10 pm that evening. She woke up long enough for a bottle, bath and pajamas and was asleep again by 11:30 pm and didn't stir until 4:30 am for another bottle.

More Evelyn

At Grandma Winterfield's request, here is more video of Evelyn. She's starting to notice the camera (probably sees the reflections in the lens.)
